Apollo approached Marble to support them in the expansion and development of their product range. Marble have conducted numerous projects with Apollo ranging from concept generation through to manufacturing improvements.
The Overstitch Endoscopic suturing system is a clever tool designed to fit onto the endoscope enabling remote full thickness suturing. Marble developed a number of concept options and working prototypes to take to user trials for evaluation of the most appropriate attachment mechanisms. Marble also designed and developed concepts for alternative handles and driving mechanisms for deploying the sutures.
The Overtube is an endoscopic access system designed to protect the oesophagus while delivering endoscopes and surgical instruments to the GI tract. The product incorporates a balloon sealing mechanism to allow insufflation and visibility of the working area. Marble developed this product from concept through testing to final manufacture. Marble worked within the required medical device design quality standards and supported the regulatory testing and submission. The product is currently on sale in the USA and Europe and is a springboard product for Apollo to develop future endoscope based surgical tools.
The overstitch is an endoscopic suturing system. It is precision made, intricate and single use; presenting challenges in terms of manufacturing cost. Marble supported Apollo in design for manufacture activities by recommending product and assembly jig changes to improve device manufacturability and increase production yield. Marble supported Apollo through the scale up process and into production.
